General Program

The Club Sailing Program for the next year commences late April with club events starting promptly at 10:30 AM last race to finish before 2:30 pm

Sailing will be conducted at Woorabinda Lake, Mabel St Stirling

Sailing every Wednesday with handicap racing on the last Wed of the month and Championship Racing on the other days. The club also runs a match racing event in early December and an Interclub event late September. We break for Christmas for 3 weeks.

Social sailing is available to members every Sunday morning 8.00 to 12.00am

All state events can be seen on the SARYA web site

Good to see No 95 out of moth-balls and back on the lake (Race 1 and 2 only then 68).. It was only for a short test spin but it did bring back memories. The day was cold and wet and the rescue dingy was in high demand. This is a report from a none participating skipper on the day so this content is hearsay only.

We all welcomed our newest member Geoff and his Indie Sail no 52 which he has just purchased to the club. Mal did some final prep with Geoff before they started competing at Race 2. Mal's 2 week's holiday, has obviously really revived him because he blitzed the day winning 7 of the 10 races. Our AGM at the Bridgewater Hotel was a great success and all those that were there had a good time. It's handicap week next week with a BBQ for lunch. All membership fees are now due and payable for those that haven't done so.

The day was quite the wind was patchy on the lake you either got it or you missed out and left behind. We started late as several boats had electrical problems and were calling out for Malcolm looking for his expertise., We welcomed new member Allan to the club who ran aground due the fact Woorabinda water level is low and only has a long keel with his purchase so through attrition we where left with 3 boats so if you were last you were guaranteed at least third. We hope week next brings more boats out on the water.

Dave and Steve had an early start setting up the marquee because the forecast was for rain. We all set off racing with 2 to 3 knots and lulls of 0 knots. The morning was slow amidst drizzling rain.
At morning tea break the rain came down and the breeze filled in. Then it was go go go for the rest of the day. Heavy showers on and off but the marquee saved the day. Don't forget the AGM on May 21st at 6pm at the Bridgewater Hotel. We need all the numbers by next Wednesday.

Another day of camaraderie between skippers who also enjoyed a barbecue lunch thanks to Dave K. The handicap day went as it should with close finishes again. 5 to 6 yachts rounded the last mark resulting in chaos because rules were not adhered to. Hopefully it was a lesson learnt and so things can only get better. The AGM has been booked for May21st , 6.00pm at the Bridgewater Hotel

It was the best turn out some time with 10 boats in the first 5 races. Later in the day the wind dropped out. So we decided finish earlier around 2pm after a enjoyable day of sailing.

What a difference a week makes. Clear blue skies, a mirror image on the lake and sunshine all day. It was a pleasure to be sailing on a day like this.

Dave N and Steve started early and cleared the debris from our launching area which helped immensely to keep our keels free from the problems we have been having in the past few weeks.

During lunch a meeting was held to determine a date for the AGM. We decided on Thursday 21st May at 6.00pm at the Bridgewater Hotel for all members and their partners.

Will all members who won trophies last year please return them next Wednesday to Mal. Thank you. See you all then.

Light winds, with no rain in the morning made sailing conditions ok. Rain started as we finished lunch. We checked on BOM radar as the rain got heavier and decided to pack up and go home before we got really wet.

I take my hat off to everyone who turned up today, as racing conditions on the lake are really difficult. We need rain to solve the situation we find ourselves in.

A new day on the lake, and there was only one thing that made it worthwhile coming, and that was the BBQ for lunch. Thanks Dave K. As for sailing, well that was the negative side to the day. Weeds were a major problem for everyone now that the lake is going down, down, down. Sounds like a Coles advertisement. There was talk of looking for another venue until we get some rain to lift the levels of the lake. They have dropped by at least a metre and all we can do is hope for rain as soon as possible. (Rob actually sailed 68 in race 6 but handicap results go with skipper so I have included his result for that race - Ben M)

From ridiculous to sublime with only 6 races achieved to last week's 14. Such were the conditions. It was impossible to read the winds, angles and direction with a mirror finish on the lake. Congratulations David L for achieving his win. He was ecstatic and we all shared in his enthusiasm. Next week is handicap day with a BBQ for lunch.

What could have been a comfortable days racing over 14 races, at times changed to an absolutely out of control fast and furious day. Sailors had to contend with numerous knock downs and submarining which altered outcomes. Wayne arrived but couldn't compete because of electronic equipment failure. All competitors agreed that it was an extraordinary racing day because of the extreme conditions putting them to the test. Everyone agreed that the day was exhilarating and that they really. enjoyed it.

Wayne & David L both of them had a great day of sailing. Wayne won most races by a good margin. David L with his shortened keel was not far behind the leaders. Most of us picked up lots of weed in most races which was frustrating. Malcom.

The day was fairly uneventful for sailing except for the boats with long keels. The weeds in the lake are causing problems for them as the water recedes. We are heading for the same situation as last year because of the lack of rain. The rescue boat was on hand to save the day but has now gone to the workshop for repairs. Thanks Ben (all done - loose connections all fixed). But we are not letting conditions deter us. 10 races are proof of that. See you all next week.
